Steelhaven Skills Centre provides a range of training services to meet the needs of the BlueScope Steel Limited Port Kembla operations. These services include: 

OHS and Trades training programs. OHS training includes the BlueScope Steel General Safety Induction as well as a range of WorkCover and other safety training courses. 

Trades training includes full time off-the-job TAFE accredited training for first and fourth year electrical and mechanical apprentices as well as a range of short course options targeted at engineering tradespeople.

BlueScope Steel General Safety Induction 
Conducted every Tuesday and Thursday. To register for one or more BlueScope Steel General Safety Induction modules, download an application form and - fax to (02) 4275 3732 or - email to steelhaven.training@ballarat.edu.au

Please note that anyone who is or will be working on site at BlueScope Steel Port Kembla will need to have this training recorded in their BlueScope Steel Passport. If you do not have a BlueScope Steel Passport you will need to complete a passport application, have it signed by your supervisor and bring it with you on the day of the training. This information sheet provides further details.

OHS Consultation Training (OHS Workplace Committee/Representatives)

This course is designed for OHS Committee Members and OHS Representatives.  Participants will become familiar with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply the principals of workplace OHS consultation as an integral part of an effective OHS Management System (OHSMS).  The course should also assist in the development of appropriate attitudes so OHS Committee Members and OHS Representatives may effectively carry out their functions under OHS Legislation.

General OHS Induction for Construction Work in NSW

This course is aimed at all new workers carrying out construction work, including: self-employed persons; labourers; apprentices; trainees; trades-persons; supervisors and project managers.

Elevated Work Platforms (Yellow Card)

This course aims to meet the needs of any employees who may be responsible for, or who perform work with Boom, Scissor or Vertical type Elevating Working Platforms where the platform of boom units is less than 11 metres height or reach.  As scissors and vertical lifts do not alter a centre of gravity, the 11 metre cut off does not apply. Additional resources provided for national accreditation (above 11 metres).

All course materials are provided for the training.  Lunch is only provided for participants attending both morning & afternoon modules.

The BlueScope Steel General Safety Induction Day is conducted every Tuesday and Thursday (excluding Public Holidays).
