Specialist Centre for Building, Construction & Design

Welcome to the University of Ballarat's Specialist Centre for Building, Construction & Design. Please take some time to browse around our site and discover how the University of Ballarat can assist you with information and training in sustainable practices within the Building and Construction industry.

 

The Specialist Centre works in conjunction with the University of Ballarat's Department of Building & Construction, and, with a focus on sustainability issues also works hand in hand with the National Centre for Sustainability to meet the following objectives :
  • Promote sustainable design and construction of buildings and their surrounds;
  • Encourage the use of sustainable technologies and practices in existing buildings that are being restored and renovated;
  • Promote effective blending of new developments with existing buildings and surrounds, and
  • Provide information to consumers on sustainable building and construction technologies and methods.

In order to meet these objectives the Specialist Centre becomes involved in the following programs:-

  1. Producing specialised training activities with a sustainability focus and relating to the building construction & design industries.
  2. Seminars and short courses advising on sustainable practices in the whole of the built environment including plazas, terraces and gardens which may surround buildings.
  3. Information sessions on heritage issues in regard to sustainable practices in restoration and renovation.
  4. Advice to consumers on sustainable practices in the built environment through a series of short seminars aimed at the general public or interest groups.

Besides the short courses the Specialist Centre provides consulting services.
