6 Easy Steps to Becoming a Trainee or Apprentice

6 EASY STEPS

The following 6 easy steps can assist in gaining a fulltime traineeship or apprenticeship.

1. Get the person to think about what areas they would like to work in (there are loads of industries that now have traineeships and apprenticeships available) See Career Options on this site to start them thinking.

2. Get the person to update their resume

3. Get the person to visit employers to drop off their resume and discuss if they could be employed as a trainee or an apprentice (most employers these days know the steps in employing you under this program).

They can also try:
Talking to Group Training Australia's local office
Visiting Local Australian Apprenticeship Centres (AAC's)
Looking in newspapers for jobs advertised
Visiting local Job Network Providers

5. Get the person to check employment websites for traineeships and apprenticeships that may be available outside our region.

6. Get the person to consider doing a VET in Schools course or a Pre-apprenticeship Program at TAFE to gain some entry level skills

7. Tell them to BE PERSISTENT!

 Pre Apprenticeship Courses

Pre-apprenticeship courses have been conducted over many years at the University of Ballarat (TAFE Division). This is a pathway for those students wishing to gain apprenticeships in a particular trade area. The employment take-up after a student has completed one of these programs is very high as employers often ask our teaching staff for potential apprentices to employ in their businesses.

We offer pre-apprenticeship courses in the following industry areas and all enquiries should go directly to the departments as listed, or call our info line on 1800 811 711.

The following courses will open in a new window. Close window to return to this page.

Certificate I in Electrotechnology - (Pre-Apprenticeship)
Certificate II in Automotive Technology Studies
Certificate II in Building and Construction (Bricklaying)
Certificate II in Building and Construction (Carpentry )
