UniSports Aquatic Award

UniSports received the ‘Play it Safe by the Water Award’ for their program ‘Reeling in Summer Fun’ conducted in Water Safety Week 2007. The awards, hosted by Aquatics and Recreation Victoria, the Aquatics Industry peak body, comes following UniSports receiving The Life Saving Victoria Award for the Excellence in the provision of Water Safety the previous year.

The ‘Reeling in Summer Fun Program’ saw the UniSports pool transformed into a summer open water and inland water way environment. This exposed participants to water experiences that they may not have experienced before and may experience over the coming summer. UniSports staff concentrated on educating participants about the hazards and risks associated with each different environment.

The program saw swim teachers take on leading roles and become water safety ambassadors, explaining the relevance of the activity to the swimmers before they participated.

Highlights of the program including a small yacht in the pool, scuba diving, a simulated beach, a pier and a slippery entrance.
