International Tensions: UB Support for Staff and Students

Vice-Chancellor's Statement

The University of Ballarat is conscious that international conflicts are concerning to all and often have significant humanitarian consequences.

Australians are living and working in many areas of the world where there is conflict. Family and friends at home are hoping for their safe return. Some people have family or friends who live in parts of the world where there is danger. Many people are concerned that Australia may be target for acts of terrorism.

All of us are exposed to the media reporting of events as they unfold and we become aware of the impacts on ordinary people. This knowledge may cause physical, mental or emotional reactions - increased worry, difficulty in sleeping and general anxiety.

The information included here is intended to give assistance with any difficulties you may experience, and provide sources of information which may be useful.

As the University of Ballarat is committed to respecting and protecting the rights of all in our community, I urge you to maintain your respect for the rights of other members of our community in all that you do or say.

David Battersby
Vice-Chancellor
