The University of Ballarat is

School of Science and Engineering
The School of Science
and Engineering is made up of scholars and teachers dedicated to teaching,
research and consultancy in scientific disciplines that support specialised
studies in Engineering, Environmental Management, Food Science & Brewing,
and Exploration and Environmental Geology.
Field excursions are conducted in locations including the University Rangeland
Research Station at Nanya Station in far western NSW and other locations
such as Wombat State Forest, the Otway Ranges, the Flinders Ranges and
Broken Hill. Regular visits are conducted to regional food industries
including wineries and dairy processing industries, manufacturing industries
and extractive industries.
Facilities on the campus associated with the School include a DME brewing
system used for training, research and commercial brewing, an industry
training building, the Ballarat Regional Arboretum, Rainforest Garden,
Canadian Wetlands, Glasshouse Complex and Soils and Minerals Laboratories.
The project
The project (.doc 112k) involves the development
of an interactive web based resource to showcase case studies of best
environmental practice in rural and regional settings.
Cases studies included on this website have been selected on the following
criteria:
- their relevance to the rural and regional local government, industrial
and commercial sectors;
- innovativeness and practicability;
- community appeal and local relevance;
- social engagement and community participation; and
- how the principles of environmental sustainability have been addressed.
The project is being evaluated through feedback from the audience accessing
the web-based material. Web-based includes a guestbook that interested
parties may complete and electronically return to the University of Ballarat.
Objective
The objective of the project is to provide case studies of ecologically
sustainable best practice management in rural regional settings for local
governments, industry and commercial enterprises to encourage ecologically
sustainable development.
