Focus

Computers offer users increasingly realistic representations of real and imaginary worlds. A casual user might be taking part in a computer game - a more serious user might be involved in education or training.

The Virtual Reality and Simulation Laboratory seeks to enhance the delivery and the accuracy of this process, through a variety of research directions.

The mechanisms and techniques of delivery are the focus of Virtual Reality research, while Simulation research addresses the generation of the computer models that are accessed.

In addition, the VRSL pays particular attention to the modeling of human beings and to the general area of computer games.

Capability

VRSL can provide expertise to industry and government in the areas of:

  • Distributed Simulation and High Level Architecture
  • Human modeling
  • Simulation

Engagement

VRSL seeks to form collaborative partnerships within industry, government bodies and other community organizations. Examples of past and current relationships include:

  • Australian Defence Force
  • Calytrix Pty Ltd
  • Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO)
  • Simulation Interoperability Standards Organisation (SISO)
