International Student Support Services is located on the Mt Helen Campus and is set up to assist international students to settle quickly into the University and into Ballarat, to live and function effectively within Australian society and to be successful in their studies.
You are required to email your arrival details to accommodation@ballarat.edu.au no later than 5 days before your expected arrival date.
International Student Support staff are committed to ensuring students achieve their study and personal goals while in Australia.

Pre-Departure Information and Assistance
|
|
The University provides information and advice about
how to prepare for arrival in Australia and what to
expect on arrival. Pre-departure information can be found in the International Student Support Guide as above.

Airport Reception and Airport Pickup
|
|
New students arriving from overseas are met at
Melbourne International Airport by friendly staff or
senior students and are transferred by car or bus to
Ballarat (approximately one and a quarter hours drive
on the main Western Freeway).
AIRPORT PICK UP Please complete the Arrival Details form and fax to Accommodation Services on (03) 5327 9484 at least 3 business days before your expected arrival.
Lost/Delayed Luggage: In the case of lost or delayed luggage please provide your carriers with the following information for delivery purposes:

Students are taken to their accommodation and assisted with basic needs
such as changing money, telephoning home, buying
food and any other items.

Accommodation and Settling In Support
|
|
Staff of Accommodation Services help organise temporary
accommodation for students in advance of their arrival. Staff
can also assist students to find permanent accommodation.
Every effort is made to enable students to acquire the
accommodation best suited to their needs. Please refer to contact details as above for Accommodation Services.
Accommodation Services staff assist students to settle quickly and successfully into their
accommodation and to familiarise themselves with local
shopping, opening a bank account, and getting to know
the city, surrounds and the local transportation system.

Course Advice, Enrolment Assistance
|
|
Students are introduced to academic staff of the
University and especially to their course coordinator,
and are provided with course advice and assistance
with their enrolment.
|
Orientation Program
|
|
A free orientation program is conducted before
University classes begin and is compulsory for all newly
arriving international students. The program includes an
introduction to the University, its services and facilities
as well as an introduction to Australian culture, society
and life. Students are also introduced to the academic
culture and rules of the University that are necessary
for successful study.
The orientation program also involves social activities,
which will help you to meet other students and familiarise yourself
with the university and surrounds.

Social Activities Program
|
|
An ongoing social activities program runs throughout each semester and provides opportunities for students to enjoy a range of activities outside study. We have many activities available including monthly bus trips to Melbourne's famous Victoria Market, weekly Pizza and Film Nights, day trips to the Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island and a 3 day stay in the Grampians National Park.

Academic and English Language Support
|
|
Continuing study assistance is provided by specially
trained staff on a one-to-one basis to assist students
with note taking, essay writing, assignment preparation,
seminar and tutorial presentations, using the Library
resources and English language skills.
|
Cultural and Welfare Support
|
|
Students receive continuing cultural and welfare support
throughout their stay in the University. Cultural activities
are arranged which students can participate in and
contribute to. Students also receive advice and assistance
from experienced and qualified staff in relation to
financial and personal welfare matters, as well as visa,
health insurance and general administrative matters.
