English Language Entry Requirements

The table below outlines the minimum level of English language proficiency required for international students to be admitted to the University of Ballarat. However, while the University of Ballarat accepts both IELTS (Academic)and TOEFL, in some countries the Australian Diplomatic Mission may only accept IELTS for the granting of a student visa. Please check with the Australian Diplomatic Mission in your country to ensure that you are taking the correct test.

or
A score of 237 in the computer based test plus an essay rating (ER) score of 5.0
or
A score of 92 in the Internet-based test plus a minimum score of 22 in Writing

*Exceptions to requirements

  • Please refer to Table 2 below for courses requiring a higher level of english language

In some cases, students who can demonstrate one of the following may be deemed to have met the University’s normal English language proficiency requirements:

  • Secondary school studies have been completed in English, in a country where English is the official language, and a satisfactory pass has been obtained in final year English

  • Satisfactory completion of at least the first year of a tertiary course taught and examined in English in a country where English is the official language. <
