Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education
The Certificate III in Aboriginal Education Assistants aims to provide an accredited training program which addresses the identified workplace competencies for Aboriginal Education Assistants and for people wishing to pursue a career in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education sector.
The course aims to provide a framework for training people employed as Aboriginal Education Assistants and to articulate opportunities into vocational and higher education courses. The course is delivered in regional centres across Victoria, such as Sale, Shepparton, Ballarat and Mildura/Robinvale/Swan Hill depending on student enrolment.

Adult, community and further education
The School of Human Services provides a range of courses for entrants with little or no employment experience; for workers with many skills but no formal qualifications as well as training for apprentices and trainees. Courses are conducted at one or more of UB’s TAFE campuses as well as industry sites. A number of courses articulate into Higher Education courses.
Further Education (within the school of Human Services) provides a range of foundation and preparatory programs in a supportive, adult learning environment for people wanting to improve their educational skills for employment, further study or community involvement.
Further Education also provides a range of short and introductory courses as well as certificates in General Education for Adults, English as a Second Language, Transition Education, Work Education, and the VCE. Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) courses are also available.
Access Subjects are short individual units of study designed to enable students to develop and improve skills and confidence that will assist them in their community activities, employment and/or further studies. The programs are offered in an encouraging and supportive learning environment with an emphasis on students working at a level suited to their own needs.

Curriculum, policy and education administration
The Graduate Diploma of Education (Curriculum and Policy Studies) seeks to provide education practitioners and people with related skills or academic backgrounds with an opportunity to pursue studies which will lead to a developed critical familiarity with issues and questions related to curriculum and education policy. Students will be encouraged to explore recent developments in these areas in order to deepen their knowledge and acquire a more informed base for decision making in their educational work.
The Graduate Diploma of Education (Educational Administration) provides a professional development opportunity and an acknowledged post-graduate award for educators from any field of education. The course deals with the related areas of administration, management and leadership.

Correctional services – short courses
Access Subjects are short individual units of study designed to enable students to develop and improve skills and confidence. Several subjects are offered of particular relevance to correctional services including Communication in Prisons – Communication in Perspective, Communication Strategies, Infectious Disease Awareness in a Prison, and Presenting Behaviours.

Evaluative and collaborative services
Moving beyond its traditional role in pre-service teacher education, the School of Education embraces consultancy, higher degree programs, research and research supervision. These developments reflect the School’s commitment to its broad mission of teacher education, research and professional engagement.
The School of Education welcomes discussion and collaboration in promoting learning for individuals, communities or professional groups. The School offers an evaluation service for organisations, such as tourism operators and museums, which seek to appraise their own education services.
The School of Education is currently collaborating with local schools and the Department of Education & Training (DE&T) to strengthen electronic communications by assisting in the development of broadband links.

International education – offshore

Police recruitment examinations
This is a fee for service one-day course during which applicants sit 5 tests. Applicants who successfully complete the exam will receive an application form with their results. Then they will make an appointment with the Officer in Charge of their local police station to begin the second stage of interviews and testing.

Teaching
The School of Education offers the Bachelor of Education and the Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Technology at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, the school offers a Bachelor of Teaching, Graduate Certificate of Education (Tertiary Education), Graduate Diplomas of Education (Primary or Secondary) and Master of Education by Coursework. A Graduate Diploma of Education (Computers in Education) and a Graduate Certificate of Education (Professional Development) are also offered, as well as Master of Education, Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Education.

Professional writing and editing
The course has a strong emphasis on the business and discipline of writing. It aims to develop skills in written communication, which are in great demand in the public and private sectors. Applicants often have an interest in journalism, writing novels or plays, or acting. Others are interested in writing family memoirs or for personal enjoyment. Applicants are often interested in advertising or marketing. If they meet the entry requirements of both courses, students may undertake this award concurrently with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the UB Mt Helen Campus.

Vocational education and training
The Diploma of Vocational Education and Training is recognised as a qualification in TAFE and Registered Training Organisations for those people training, assessing and delivering programs using competency based training.
The Diploma of VET applies to people who are already working within a structured training and assessment system and who require a formal teaching and assessment qualification. The Diploma is also an appropriate teaching/training qualification for people changing career paths and/or seeking employment in the TAFE sector.
The program at SMB involves one day a week of lectures plus one other negotiated day of study group. The program is delivered in Horsham on weekends. Applicants will need to contact the Horsham campus for details of the units delivered. Applicants need to be working in an environment delivering training and assessment in order to be able to complete assessment requirements.
Workplace assessment and training
The Assessment Centre (Ballarat) is a strategic provider of information and expertise to the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector and the broader educational community throughout Australia. The Centre provides research and consultancy services for a variety of external organisations and staff have researched, written and produced many publications.
Services include: consultancy, quality systems analysis, assessment, training, evaluation, research, writing, and audit review (AQTF Standards and ESOS Act)

- Evaluate training and assessment programs and systems
- Evaluate RTOs against AQTF requirements
- Manage and conduct large-scale assessment projects

- Advice and support on becoming an RTO, setting up systems, and continuous improvement

- Advice about AQTF and ESOS Act auditing requirements

- Editorial services for educational purposes
The Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training is a recognised qualification for people wanting to deliver training and/or conduct assessments in the Vocational Education and Training sector. Graduates will have considerable responsibility for training program development and delivery and the assessment of training participants or employees.
The certificate and its units are offered at the various UB campuses or within the workplace, through publicly funded course activity or via sponsorship from corporate organisations. UB is keen to ensure that graduates from this training will, in turn, become first-rate trainers and assessors.
