Fine arts, visual arts
Arts Academy staff are available for consultancy, research and to deliver workshops and classes. Staff have produced commissioned works and undertaken tenders for a range of local, national and international clients. Specific expertise is available by arrangement.
Short courses and workshops are available to the wider community throughout the year. These include ceramics, drawing, painting, papermaking and origami.
Studies are available at diploma and undergraduate level, through to honours, masters and PhD level.

Graphic design
The Arts Academy offers formal consultancies in the field of Graphic Design/Multimedia with specialist production for print, web, film and video design as well as a large-format printing service for banners and posters. Short courses for industry in design-related software are also available.
Studies are available at advanced diploma and bachelor level, through to honours and masters.

Hair and beauty
Training solutions are provided at Certificate II and III levels in Hairdressing, Beauty, and Nail Technology. The School of Human Services provides nationally accredited, specialised training based on the Hairdressing and Beauty Training packages and has a successful track record in implementing diverse training options, including the Certificate III in Hairdressing. This is available for delivery in Apprenticeship mode, and the Certificate III in Beauty is available via Traineeship mode.

History, heritage and indigenous studies
Units within the Bachelor of Arts at UB include Indigenous Societies in Contemporary Australia; Aboriginal Affairs and Indigenous Activism; Me, Them and Us: Managing Cultural Diversity in Context; and Australian People Institutions and Culture. Historical units include Knowledge and History, and Goldfields Heritage. A summer school unit ‘The Anthropology of Indigenous Art’ may also be offered.

International studies
The Bachelor of Arts (International Studies) comprehensively prepares students for careers in areas of multicultural government and non-government organizations both internationally and domestically.
The course focuses on the acquisition of skills in understanding global and cross-cultural issues. It develops students’ knowledge of other cultures, societies and philosophies. This course will encourage students to explore the way geographical, cultural, historical, ideological and social factors impact on, and are related to national and international contexts, and will illustrate alternative interpretations of events, cultures and philosophies. This course can also be combined with the Bachelor of Business as a double degree.

Language
The School offers language translation and interpreting services in Chinese and Japanese on a fee for service basis, together with preparation for working in cross-cultural environments.

Literature, film and media
Units within the Bachelor of Arts include Adaptations Remakes & Spinoffs; and Film Movements and Theories. A summer school unit ‘Australian Cinema’ may be offered.

Performing arts and theatre production
Diverse performance-based disciplines are offered within the Arts Academy. Music theatre, music, acting and small companies and community theatre are offered alongside theatre production, and lighting and sound.

Physical recreation and outdoor education
The School of Human Services is successfully involved in the production of customised training drawn from the National Fitness and National Recreation Training packages with corses at Certificate III and IV in Fitness and Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation. The School has proactively implemented alternative training options, delivering specialised training through VET in Schools, preparing secondary students for a wider range of a career options.

The Graduate Diploma in Outdoor and Environmental Education combines the study of outdoor and environmental education knowledge, skills and values with the development of competence and experience in outdoor activities. Outdoor activities are viewed as approaches to gaining access to more natural settings and as a medium for developing human/nature relationships. The theoretical perspective of the course aims to develop students’ understanding of the interdependence of culture and the natural environment and to identify the influence of cultural beliefs on environmental and outdoor education issues and practices.
