Allied Mills

A flexible training delivery methodology is the key ingredient to the training program being delivered by UB at the Ballarat flour processing plant of Allied Mills. The innovative program developed by UB, includes both on-the-job training and assessment that is cost and time effective for the enterprise. UB training facilitators have developed an individual training plan for each employee that provides them with skills and knowledge to successfully perform in their roles as food processing operators.

BlueScope Steel, Port Kembla, New South Wales

In 2002 UB secured a five year contract with BlueScope Steel (BSL) to provide engineering trade and technical training at its Port Kembla Operations. UB assumes full responsibility for the management and operation of the Steelhaven Skills Centre, including the employment of ten staff. Currently the Steelhaven Skills Centre is responsible for the training of 60 plus apprentices and the provision of training in other areas such as electrical safety, instrumentation, electronic control systems and related fields.

In 2005, UB secured a further major contract with BlueScope Steel (BSL) for the provision of all Occupational Heath and Safety training and consultancy to the Port Kembla site. This additional contract involves the employment of a further 7 UB trainers and consultants, to provide services in a diverse range of OHS areas such as, Induction, Electrical Safety, Confined Space, Isolation and Locking etc. All OHS services are being provided to BSL employees, alliance partners and contractors to BSL.

Empire Rubber

UB has been contracted to implement a competency based training process for this enterprise, incorporating the development of Competency Profiles (based on Rubber processing and related competencies), Skills Audits, Training Plans and Workplace Training. This ambitious project has involved 150 plus operators and will be completed in 2005.

Gippsland Water Authorities

UB has been contracted by five Water Authorities in Gippsland with the objective of implementing the Water Industry Training Package for approximately 100 water industry operators. This innovative employee development project has involved a Recognition of Current Competency process, followed by flexibly delivered workplace training and contextualised assessment. This project will be completed in 2005.

Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water

UB has been contracted by Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water (GWMW) to implement an ambitious training project utilising the Water Industry Training Package and aimed at upskilling 130 employees. A significant theme of this project concerns the high level of collaboration between the UB and GWMW in relation to training resource development and workplace delivery.

Holden, Melbourne

UB has been working with Holden over the past two years, assisting the enterprise to review and revamp its Trades Progression Structure. This project has involved UB staff auditing and documenting all tasks, knowledge and skills utilised by tradespersons across all Holden sites in Victoria. The project involved the development of a relevant enterprise focused Competency Based Structure (CBS) that will enable tradespersons to attain nationally recognised units of study and/or qualifications in the process. UB has also located workplace assessors within Holden to assess employees against the revised CBS.

MaxiTRANS, Ballarat

UB has been working in a dynamic partnership with Maxitrans (formerly Freighters) for almost a decade. The successful relationship with Maxitrans is based around the conduct of internal Traineeships and Apprenticeships training. In addition to the technical training for operators, UB has also been contracted to implement Leadership Development training for supervisors. The enterprise has chosen the Certificates III and IV in Business Management as the training vehicle.

NSW Rural Fire Service

When NSW Rural Fire Service was looking for a training organisation to provide dynamic and customised Management Development training for its employees, they turned to UB. Delivered in Sydney, the program has been developed by UB in consultation with the organisation and provides employees with skills and knowledge in change management and empowering individuals and teams. UB has undertaken significant ‘front end’ planning with representatives within NSW Rural Fire Services to ensure training content, workshop activities and assessment tasks are customised to meet the organisation’s needs. The program has been very successful and UB is currently developing a training schedule with NSW Rural Fire Service for 2006.

Southern Health

UB has successfully worked in a healthy partnership with Southern Health for the past three years, supplying a range of training in Business Administration, Management Development and Financial Management training. Most training interventions are characterised by course contextualization to the client’s requirements, and training is delivered in a flexible and innovative manner.

Yarra Trams

In an endeavour to enhance the competency levels of 26 employees within the central Control Centre of Yarra Trams, UB has been contracted to identify competencies required, develop training and assessment materials and deliver training. This project represents stage one of a number of major employee development initiatives to be undertaken by Yarra Trams, as part of their journey to be more efficient and effective in passenger service provision.
