Sophos - Free Anti Virus Software

Sophos Endpoint Security and Control software is available free to all current University of Ballarat students and staff. There now is no excuse for your PC to remain unprotected from viruses.

Download the Sophos Endpoint Security and Control installation file (9mb) below. PLEASE NOTE: Once the install begins, the process will download approximately 70-80MB from the UB update server. This is to ensure that your version of Sophos is fully up-to-date.

Installation Instructions

The installer SHOULD remove any existing anti-virus product, but in the event of an error, you may need to manually un-install it.

  1. Download the Sophos Installer file (exe, 14.5mb) (install file is 14.5MB in size and will download an additional 70-80MB while installing)
  2. Open the file and extract the files to a temporary directory (eg C:\ )
  3. Run setup.exe in the directory the installer was extracted to.
  4. Leave all fields as default and enter your University Login and Password in the required fields.
  5. Click OK to start the installation.
  6. Once setup is complete you will see a blue shield icon in your system tray (bottom right hand corner near the time). Right click the shield and select Configure Updating
  7. Enter your current University username and password in the appropriate fields, then click OK
  8. Right click the shield and select Update Now. Sophos will now update itself with the latest virus updates. Your machine may reboot at this time, and run an autoscan on bootup

Sophos should now be fully installed on your PC.

Remember to update your password details in the update setup if you change your UB password.

Unfortunately, even though the University can provide the software, the ICT Service Desk are unable to provide any support for the product and take no responsibility for your personal computers or property. If you require assistance with the software, it is suggested that you visit the Sophos Website and check the information there.
