1926:
Ballarat Teachers College
(BTC) opens on 4 May 1926 in the Dana Street State School buildings.
1927:
The College moves to the
old Ballarat East Town Hall (now demolished) in Barkly Street.
1931:
BTC closes in December with
the onset of the Depression.
1946:
The College reopens at Dana
Street State School in February 1946, with Frank Lord the newly appointed
Principal. Lord remained in the position until 1951 when he transferred
to establish a Teacher's College at Toorak.
Tom William Turner was Lord's
successor. A highlight of his term was the construction of new college
buildings at Gillies Street with the students commencing their lessons
there in February 1958.
1970:
Tom William Turner retires,
having overseen a period of substantial growth in the institution. In that
year alone more than one hundred and forty students completed their primary
teaching qualification to meet a severe shortage of teachers. Doug Watson
commenced as principal in 1971.
1973:
Ballarat Teacher's College
becomes the State College of Victoria at Ballarat.
1975:
Ballarat College of Advanced
Education is formed and the teacher education students move to the Mount
Helen campus.
1989:
Ballarat College of Advanced
Education becomes an affiliated college of the University of Melbourne.
1994:
University of Ballarat created.
