Students are able to receive a broad range of educational and community support at all campuses of UB. Our staff are available to provide personalised support.
The Aboriginal Education Centre is also available to provide advice about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues to the broader UB student and staff population.
The University shares the vision of Reconciliation Australia that recognises the special place and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians.
The University also recognises that reconciliation will only be achieved if the past is acknowledged, the present understood and the future based on equality, respect and genuine opportunity.
The following wording is to be used at graduations, ceremonies and other significant events.
"The University of Ballarat recognises the role of Australia's First Peoples as custodians of the oldest continuing culture in human history.
Today, traditional clan locations, language groups and borders are no longer in use and descendants of [Insert appropriate Aboriginal clan from list below] people live within modern day society, although still preserving much of their culture.
I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we are gathered - the people of the [Insert appropriate Aboriginal clan from list below] nation and offer my respect to their elders."
