General Information

The Sixteenth Australasian Workshop on Combinatorial Algorithms (AWOCA 2005) will be held at the University of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, during September 18-21, 2005.  Ballarat is about an hour's drive west from Melbourne airport.   The workshop will follow the style of its predecessors: problem-oriented papers and an emphasis on informal discussions.

Special Note: The year 2005 marks the 70th birthday of Professor Bill Smyth.  The workshop will celebrate his vast contribution to graph theory, combinatorics, combinatorial algorithms, and a wide variety of other topics in Mathematics and Computer Science (in particular, optimal networks, graph labelling and string algorithms).

Authors are invited to submit papers that present original and unpublished research in the following areas:

  • Algorithms and Data Structures
  • Complexity Theory
  • Graph Theory and Combinatorics
  • Cryptography
  • Algorithms on Strings
  • Optimisation
  • Graph Algorithms
  • Graph Drawing
  • Computational Algebra and Geometry
  • Computational Biology
  • Communications Networks
  • Probabilistic and Randomised Algorithms
  • New Paradigms of Computation
This is not an exclusive list and papers related to other theoretical aspects of Computer Science will also be considered.  Papers which state and discuss open problems and work-in-progress within the general theme of algorithms and computational complexity are especially encouraged.  After the workshop, authors will be invited to submit their papers to the special issue of the Journal of Discrete Algorithms.

Important Dates

  • Submission deadline:   June 22
  • Acceptance notification:   July 31
  • Early bird registration deadline:   August 20
  • Final version deadline:   August 22
  • Workshop:   September 18-21 (Sun-Wed)

Organisation and Sponsorship

AWOCA 2005 is organised by the School of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Ballarat, and sponsored by the Centre for Informatics and Applied Optimisation (CIAO) at the same university.
