Semester 2 2008

Unit HN521 Sociology of Health

This unit is an introduction to the sociology of health. It considers the social aspect of holistic models of health and illness; the social construction of health and illness in relation to gender, age, ethnicity, disability and institutions, incorporating an appreciation of illness as metaphor and body discipline. It also covers the structured inequality of health distribution along class, gender and ethnic dimensions and explanations for these.

Lectures for Unit HN520 are available either as a direct mp3 soundfile download or a podcast.

Download files can be listened to directly by just 'clicking' on the file you want to hear and it will start to play. Or you can use any of the following; Web Browser, Windows Media Player or Real Player. Also the files can be copied by 'right clicking' on the file and saving it to a disk or USB Drive.
