EAP

English and Academic Preparation

The English and Academic Preparation (EAP) program consists of a nested set of units within three courses, EAP Level 1 (20 weeks) and EAP Level 2 (10 weeks) and EAP Level 3 (15 weeks). These courses prepare students for entry into Higher Education degree courses by enhancing English language and academic enculturation.

Units include: Critical Literacy for International Students; Western Academic Culture; Practical Application of Academic Skills in Higher Education.

 

Objectives

The English and Academic Preparation (EAP) is designed to enable students to:
  • actively participate in tertiary study at the University of Ballarat;
  • understand the linguistic and cultural factors which underlie academic discourse in English;
  • identify cultural variations in styles of teaching and learning;
  • Develop the relevant theoretical framework and skills necessary to inform the practical application of academic skills in Australian Higher Education Institutions;
  • apply new skills and knowledge effectively in authentic academic situations.
