THE COMMITTEE
The University of Ballarat Pipe Band (Inc) is an incorporated association under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 in the State of Victoria, Australia. As such, it is a distinct legal entity that continues to exist, regardless of changes to its membership. The organisation is run by a Committee which elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Committee meets monthly to transact the business and manage the affairs of the Pipe Band.

As an incorporated association, the University of Ballarat Pipe Band (Inc) and its members enjoy the following benefits:
- Protection of the members and Committee members against personal liability for debts or other legal obligations of the Pipe Band
- The ability to accept gifts or bequests
- Greater eligibility to apply for grants
- Greater certainty and acceptability for suppliers of goods and services to the Pipe Band, and for any other potential contracting parties
- The ability to buy and sell property in the name of the Pipe Band
- The ability to invest and borrow money
- The ability to conduct legal actions in the name of the Pipe Band
