Research Goal
The University's overall research goal is: "To produce and communicate new
knowledge and to apply innovative applications of existing knowledge which
make a significant impact at national/international level and improve the
prosperity of the people and communities of this region."
When the research goal is separated into its component clauses, the intent
contained in each clause highlights the basic requirements to reach the goal.
For example:
The production and communication of new knowledge will emanate from: the
research abilities and activity of staff and research postgraduate students;
reward and recognition of staff and students; and, the provision of appropriate
infrastructure including information services.
Making a significant impact at national/international level revolves around
the calibre of the research and the researchers; and, research funding success.
Improving the prosperity of the people and communities of the region primarily
involves recognition and carrying out research in areas that will benefit
the region; a structure to permit this to occur; and, the funds to carry it
out.
With respect to research and research training, the University's vision,
mission and focus will be achieved through the themes of:
- Relevance
- Reinforcement
- Recognition & Reward
The University's research will be relevant for the region and the nation
it serves
The University's research capacity will be reinforced through the capacities
and abilities of its staff.
The University will be recognised and rewarded for its activity in, and the
high calibre of, its research and research training.
