2010 Annual Research Conference

Create, Engage, Innovate: Research Pathways for a New Era

Wednesday, 3 November 2010
Geoffrey Blainey Auditorium
Mt Helen Campus

The University of Ballarat's one-day Annual Research Conference will be held on Wednesday 3 November 2010.  The aim of the conference is to showcase the exciting research work being conducted by our research students and early career researchers.

The 'pathways' theme of this years conference emphasises the many different forms which research, and researchers' careers, may take. Our students and early career researchers are undertaking exciting research with important and meaningful outcomes, and this conference will enable them to share their new discoveries and findings with an audience keen to share in their passion.

Much of the research conducted by UB staff and students is built through strong collaboration with industry partners, and makes a direct contribution to economic development, environmental sustainability, cultural progress and social capital in regional Australia.

Who Can Participate?

All Higher Degree by Research and Honours students, and Early Career Researchers from the University of Ballarat and nearby campuses at regional Victorian Universities are invited to participate in the Research Conference. Early Career Researchers are defined as those who are within 5 years of completing their PhD, or who do not have a doctorate. This is a chance for you to present your research to an audience of keen and enthusiastic listeners - and it is also a chance to hear what others are doing in their own field of research. Become part of the excitement of a research conference!

How Can I Participate?

You can participate in the conference in one of two ways:

Oral Presentation of Research Results
All eligible participants who are at the stage in their research where they have research outcomes are invited to give a presentation on the day of the Conference. The Conference will include a series of concurrent sessions clustered according to the four academic UB Research Themes, and 'other' papers which will be clustered by the Conference Steering Committee. Intending Presenters are encouraged, but not required, to submit a full paper; however all intending presenters are required to submit an abstract for inclusion in the Book of Abstracts.
Please Note: Only those with Research Outcomes are eligible to present. Literature reviews and presentations of proposed research methods should be presented as a poster instead.

OR

Poster Presentation for display of work-in-progress or research intent
All participants who have work-in-progress or a research intention to present, are invited to submit a Poster Presentation for display. A Poster Presentation on your work-in-progress or your research intent is a great opportunity to share ideas and receive encouragement and feedback. The Poster Presentation session will be featured as a formal part of the conference program. Guidelines will be provided for posters. Intending poster presenters are required to submit an abstract for inclusion in the Book of Abstracts.

Submission of Full Paper (optional)
All intending presenters are encouraged to present a full paper which is ready for submission to a designated journal. Papers must be proof-read and approved for submission by your Principal Supervisor and will be reviewed by discipline experts and a subcommittee of the Conference Steering Committee. Guidelines will be provided for submission.

Abstract
Abstracts for Electronic Presentation must be submitted electronically and received by the Research & Graduate Studies Office by 5.00pm 2 August 2010. Email abstracts to HDResearch@ballarat.edu.au. A clear digital photo of your face must accompany your abstract, for inclusion in the book of abstracts publication. Abstracts will be reviewed by the Conference Steering Committee which will reserve the right to allocate abstracts without research outcomes to the poster stream where appropriate. Decisions will be available by 16 August 2010.
Full Papers
Full papers must be submitted together with the required documentation to the Research & Graduate Studies Office by 5.00pm on 1 September 2010. Submission of a full paper is optional.
