Entry Requirements
The admission requirements for Doctor of Philosophy, Masters Degrees by research
and Professional Doctorates are specified in Regulation 5.1, Part B,
Part C, and Part D and can be found at:

Procedures on the admission to candidature are managed by the Research
and Graduate Studies Office.
Application Procedures
Before applying for candidature you should discuss research opportunities and
the availability of supporting facilities such as laboratory, computing or
library facilities with the School of Research , Research Higher Degrees
and Ethics Co-ordinator or your potential Principal Supervisor. You should
also discuss the nature of any preparatory or additional studies such as
coursework which you may be required to undertake.

Candidates should complete sections A & B of the form and provide all
documents listed in the Check List. These should be lodged with the Research
and Graduate Studies Office. The School Research, Research Higher Degrees
Ethics Coordinator recommends to the RHDC on the merits of the application
of the applicant. Formal enrolment is not complete until your candidature
and enrolment have been approved by the RHDC. In the first instance enrolment
in doctoral programs is probationary. Procedures for the confirmation

International Students
Prospective applicants from overseas should contact the Research and Graduate
Studies Office for advice on admission procedures, scholarship opportunities,
English language requirements and fees. Before admission to higher degree
by research candidature, overseas applicants intending to study in Australia must
satisfy the University that they have adequate financial resources to undertake

Transferring from Another Institution
Higher degree by research candidates at other institutions who wish to transfer
their candidature to University of Ballarat should contact the Research and
Graduate Studies Office or School Research, Research Higher Degrees and Ethics
Coordinator to discuss the opportunities before making formal application.
Credit may be given for work carried out elsewhere, provided it has not been
submitted for another degree. All details relating to the enrolment period
at the other institution must be provided to the Research and Graduate Studies
Office. The period of enrolment at the first institution will be deducted
from the term of candidature at the University of Ballarat . This procedure
is fully detailed in the Research Training Scheme Guidelines. The guidelines

When to Apply
It is currently possible to apply for higher degree by research candidature at
any time of the year, but it is advisable to lodge your application by 31
January as funded places are limited.
Applications for scholarships have specific closing dates (see the scholarships
section earlier in this Guide).
