Examination Process for thesis/portfolio
The examination process for Doctor of Philosophy, Professional Doctorates and Masters by research commences when the student submits the 'Intention to Submit' form. The RAGSO studies office will not accept the 'Intention to Submit Application Form' or the 'Abstract' information unless the Abstract is provided on the approved template. The abstract must be the final version that appears in your thesis/portfolio. (The use of Acronyms in the abstract should be avoided).
The following procedures commence once this form is submitted:
- The Principal Supervisor should submit the proposed examiners names for approval. The correct form must be used.
- The Dean of Graduate Studies approves the examiners.
- Please note three examiners are invited for Doctoral examination
- Two examiners are invited for Masters degrees.
- The additional examiner requested through the nomination process acts as a reserve.
- The Executive Officer invites the examiners. The examiners are provided with an abstract of the thesis/portfolio.
- The Examiners are requested to sign a contract. This contract states that there is an expectation that the examination will be completed within a 6-8 week period.
- Once the Examiner agrees to the conditions the thesis/portfolio is forwarded by Express Mail.
- Students and Supervisors are not permitted to know the final selection of examiners or make contact with the examiners during the examination process.
- The Executive Officer advises the student and the supervisor when all examiners reports have been returned.
This process can take up to 12 weeks to complete. In the case of Doctoral examinations, at least one of the examiners will be located overseas.
