The University of Ballarat is an institution that combines teaching and research and especially one where teaching is informed by research. The quest is now to increase the University's comparative performance. The University continues to focus its research in those areas that both serve and benefit the region and the Institute for Regional and Rural Research and Innovation (IRRRI) leads that focus through its designated research centres.
In the sphere of research and especially research at this regional university, the broad aims are to:
