Biography

Russel is an experienced Occupational Health and Saftey and risk management professional with extensive background in the development, implementation, management and auditing of OH&S and risk management systems. Over the last 25 years he has worked within a broad spectrum of industries and government and semi-government organisations, and with a number of large Australian and international organisations throughout Australia, New Zealand, PNG and the Pacific Islands, and S.E. Asia.

He established his management consultancy LCMS Australia Pty Limited (T/A Safetysystems.biz) in 1995 and during this time was also employed by Noel Arnold & Associates for 18 months as NSW State Manager. The business provides a broad range of OH&S and risk management consultancy services throughout Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

Prior to, and following the establishment of his Management Consultancy, he has worked in a number of senior and executive management positions within Unilever Australasia, DNV Consultancy Services, The BOC Group, Coles Myer Limited, Smorgon Consolidated Industries and Boral Limited.

He has been actively involved with VIOSH Australia at the University of Ballarat for in excess of eight years; both in a teaching, and a consulting capacity; and he completed the review and development of the Management System Auditing Unit within the current Grad. Dip. OHM. This program is also offered as a 5-day Public and in-house training course and was accredited by the Quality Society of Australasia (QSA), now RABQSA, five years ago as "meeting the training requirements for Certification as an OH&S Auditor". Russel was also the previous chair of the QSA OH&S Auditor Examination Panel and regularly provides advice on effective auditing practice.

He also delivers in excess of one hundred and fifty OH&S and risk management training sessions annually to a broad range of organisational positions and he specialises in the delivery of stimulating executive awareness workshops. He has presented at international events in New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Canada, USA, and UK.

Russel's particular interest is in the development of pragmatic approaches to the implementation of management systems and the effective use of auditing to evaluate overall risk management performance.
