Biography
David commenced his research activities as a Psychologist with a special interest in
ergonomics. He completed an M.Sc in Ergonomics in the U.K. and worked in a research capacity
in Stockholm Sweden for the National Board of OHS. After working with Eastman Kodak at
Rochester, new York state in the USA he joined ICI in Australia. This was during the "RSI"
period and he was involved with a range of workplaces in manufacturing and service industries
to address these risks.
Since this time David has been a consultant to Governments in Australia, USA and EU as they
have developed and evaluated legislation to address musculoskeletal risks. Whilst training
and consulting in this area remains an area if interest David is now largely involved in
facilitating a range of Industry based projects across Australia. These involve participation
of unions, employer associations and government to tackle emerging OHS issues. A particular
area of interest has been approaches to engage SME in proactive OHS programs.
David has a number of volunteer roles in the OHS profession. These include one of the
Independent members of the Victorian OHS Advisory Committee. He is also a Board member and
Australian delegate to the International Ergonomics Association. He is currently Chair of
the IEA International Development Committee to liaise with the World Health Organization and
the International Labour Organization in Geneva.
The consulting practice headed by David has a team of 10 Associates based in Melbourne. They
provide a diverse range of technical OHS skills to provide a range of expert teams to
complete the projects. These involve training, consulting and research projects.
