Graduate Certificate & Graduate Diploma in Occupational Hazard Management
Course Framework
Year one comprises the units undertaken to complete the Graduate Certificate and years one and
two those to complete the Graduate Diploma.
Year One
Graduate Certificate in OHM themes include:
- Working with small to large organisations
- Controlling acute, chronic and low probability –high consequence risks
- Moving from pathological to generative organisational cultures
- Working inside and outside organisations
Semester 1 (January)
OHS Systems
Explores the underlying principles and processes for the systematic and systemic management of
OHS underpinned by systems theory.
OHS Law
Explores the legal system in relation to OHS underpinned by relevant legal concepts and process.
Semester 2 (July)
OHS Risk Management
Explores the underlying principles and processes for the investigation of injury and ill health
and the assessment and control of OHS risks underpinned by risk analysis techniques and other
relevant theory.
Prevention and Control of OHS Risks
Explores the underlying principles and processes for the control of OHS risks underpinned by
scientific and other relevant theory.
Year Two
Themes from the Graduate Certificate in Occupational Hazard Management (first year) are expanded upon.
Semester 3 (January)
Measuring OHS Performance
Explores the principles and processes for the measurement of OHS performance using positive and
negative indicators of performance underpinned by statistical theory.
Growing Healthy Organisations
Explores the underlying principles and processes for designing healthy organisations underpinned
by organisational and other relevant theory.
Semester 4 (July)
Auditing OHS Risk Management
Develops the underlying principles and processes for auditing OHS management systems underpinned
by relevant auditing concepts.
Dissertation
Enables students to explore a topic at depth under supervision, and to write a paper to a
standard suitable for publication in a refereed journal.
