Biography
Todd Walker has a background in clinical biomedical research and biomedical science education. He joins UB to head the implementation of the new Bachelor of Biomedical Science undergraduate program. Todd aims to build on the excellent work already established within the School and make the Biomedical Science program one of the most innovative and professionally relevant in Australia. Todd is a nationally recognised authority in the area of diagnostic cytology, having authored many research articles in national and international literature. He is a certified Cytologist with the Australian Society of Cytology (CT.ASC) and a Fellow of the International Academy of Cytology (CFIAC). For the past 10 years he has been the Editor of the Journal of the Australian Society of Cytology. He was appointed an inaugural board member of the Cancer Screening Advisory Committee in 2005. This senior level committee is charged with the authority of developing screening policy in the area of breast, cervical and bowel screening throughout NSW.
Todd has over 60 publication articles in international and national refereed journals and conference abstracts. His research has a common focus on cervical and bowel cancer that are drawn together along themes of incidence, knowledge, prevention and treatment. Many of the projects involve regional consultants, other academics and postgraduate students. The projects are complemented by a background of qualitative research, molecular biology and quantitative histology and cytology.

Research Interests:
I head the Department of Biomedical Genomics in the School of Science and Engineering. This research department conducts high quality research in areas of need in Biomedical Science.
Current projects:
- The Y chromosome’s involvement in carcinogenesis of the prostate in humans.
- Immuno-fluorescence measurement of Mismatch Repair (MMR) proteins involved in Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC)
- The contribution of copy number variation to hypertension
