Australian Student Mineral Venture (ASMV)

The ASMV is an annual vacation program for students in Years 10, 11 and 12 aimed at providing an introduction to courses, careers and lifestyles in the minerals industry.

The School of Science and Engineering @ UB is proud to continue the traditional university support offered to The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in running the Australian Student Mineral Ventures and will coordinate the Southern ASMV for the years 2008 - 2010.

With its twelve-year history the four annual ASMVs have introduced over one thousand senior Australian high school students to a variety of professional careers available in the minerals industry.

A number of ASMV participants have gone on to careers in the minerals industry.

  • Geologists
  • Mining engineers
  • Electrical engineers
  • Mechanical engineers
  • Civil engineers
  • Metallurgists
  • Environmental Scientists

The ASMV will appeal to senior high school students with an interest in biology, chemistry, geology, physics or mathematics and with a sense of adventure and a desire to travel.

The ASMV is a 12 day tour of the southern Australian states visiting a number of universities, research institutes and mine sites. Participants will be offered many opportunities to engage in hands-on activities, live and travel with young industry graduates, discuss courses with current students, meet industry professionals and discover the variety offered by a minerals industry career and lifestyle.

Invest in your future - this will be the best 12-day vacation you've ever had!
