PARKS VICTORIA
The University of
Ballarat is one of a number of research institutions that have formed
a partnership with Parks Victoria.
Parks Victoria's
Research Partners Program is part of the government's commitment to
improving the conservation and management of Victoria's National Parks
and reserves system. By bringing some of Australia's leading research
institutions together with park managers, the Program will increase
the scientific knowledge of Victoria's National Parks and reserves.
The research partnerships
are organised around five Research Program Areas, which have been established
to focus research on issues for environmental management of National
Parks and reserves. For each Research Program Area, a Research Partnership
has been established with a research institution. The University of
Ballarat, through the Centre for Environmental Management and individual
scientists from other Schools, is the main Partner for two of these
Program Areas:
Understanding Environmental Issues Across the Parks Network
- To undertake
research that leads to the development of techniques and methods for
addressing management issues across multiple sites or parks. The initial
focus of this research is on the application of new technologies to
environmental assessment, development of methods for assessment of
the condition of flora and fauna communities across a broad range
of ecosystems and the assessment of the effectiveness and efficiency
of management actions.
- Flora in Parks
To undertake research that enhances the knowledge of the flora within
parks and reserves. This program area includes conducting surveys
to understand the floristic composition and condition of vegetation
communities, and research to locate individual species and understand
their environmental requirements.
