Short Course in Malting and Brewing

The next short course in malting & brewing will be from 30 June - 4 July, 2008. It is now open for bookings. Please fill in an application form from the link below.

The Short Course in Malting and Brewing is a 5 day introductory course covering the scientific principles of the malting and brewing processes. The Short Course consists of a teaching mix of:

  • Formal and informal discussions;
  • Practical brewing exercises and demonstrations;
  • Field trips to a malt-house and small and large breweries;
  • Sensory evaluation sessions.

The Introductory Short Course has been held at the University of Ballarat since 1985. The Short course has been designed to assist the following:

  • New graduates entering the malting and brewing industries;
  • Employees of the industry requiring further skills training;
  • Upgrading of skills for long term employees of the industry;
  • Complement existing training programs in the malting and brewing industries;
  • Provide small brewers (and those planning to commence small brewery operations) with an introduction to the science and technology of malting and brewing.
