Scholarships & Awards

SECIA - eSecurity Innovation and Awareness : Scholarships for 2009 Academic Year

UB is one of the four University members of SECIA, a Victorian Government initiative.

The following SECIA Scholarships for current UB students are now available:

Undergraduate Scholarships worth $1,000

  • for students currently completing year one or two at UB
  • D average
  • planning to re-enrol for 2009, in at least one e-security related subject
  • must provide supporting letter from an academic staff member with application

Honours Scholarships worth $3,000

  • for students currently completing year three at UB
  • D average
  • planning to do honours degree in 2009, in an e-security related area
  • must provide supporting letter from prospective academic supervisor with application

Australian Computer Society

2000 ACS Student Awards

Purpose: The Victorian Branch of the Australian Computer Society offers a number of annual awards to tertiary students whose work has been outstanding.

Eligibility: One award will be made in each course in a Victorian university which is accredited by ACS as a Level 1 or Level 2, provided that the total course enrolment is at least ten (10) students.

Conditions of Award: The award will comprise a certificate together with a cheque for $150 and ACS membership for 12 months.

It is the responsibility of the educational institution to submit nominations to the ACS by the Society.

The winners of the awards will be notified by the ACS and will be advised as to the venue and mode of presentation.

The award will be made to the highest ranked student in each eligible course.

Only one award will be made per course. Staff involved in teaching final year computing subjects should determine the recipient of the award based on high performance levels across the computing subjects.

Aspect Computing

Conditions:One scholarship of $1,000 is available to each participating university and is awarded during the final year of studies, to the best student majoring in computing.

Candidates judged to be of equal merit will be awarded the scholarship jointly. In the unlikely event that no candidate is judged to meet the required standard, no scholarship will be awarded.

Candidates must be:

  • Australian residents. Overseas students here on student visas are ineligible.
  • Full-time students in 2000. Part-time students and students supported by their employer are ineligible. Students doing temporary or part-time work to support themselves continue to be eligible.

ManageSoft

Managesoft have sponsored a prize of $1,000 to an individual or group for the best written content development in a final year project in the Bachelor of Information Technology (Multimedia & Internet) undergraduate degree.

Selection Criteria:

  • the prize of $1000 will be awarded to the individual or group showing the best creative written content development in the project units in the Bachelor of Information Technology (Multimedia & Internet).
  • a committee chaired by the Head of School or nominee will select the winner from those projects awarded Distinction or High Distinction grades.

University of Ballarat School of ITMS Honours Scholarship ($1,000)

Criteria: Qualification for the School of ITMS Honours program and interview with the Head of School.

NetConnect Communications Prize

Criteria: Final year computing students with high marks are referred to NetConnect personnel for an interview.
