Biography
Professor John Yearwood became Director of The Centre for Informatics and Applied Optimization (CIAO) in September 2007, after previously being the Deputy Director since 2001. As Director of CIAO, Professor Yearwood has general leadership over the research programs of CIAO and the Research Groups and Laboratories.
Professor Yearwood holds a Bachelor of Science with first class Honours and Diploma of Education from Monash University, a Master of Science from the University of Sydney and was awarded his Doctorate of Philosophy from RMIT for a Thesis entitled “Case Based Retrieval of Text Cases”.
Professor Yearwood’s association with the University of Ballarat commenced in 1989 as a lecturer in mathematics. In 1997 he was promoted to Senior Lecturer and in 2001 he became Associate Professor and was awarded an Australian Research Council Queen Elizabeth II Fellowship to work in Argumentation and Narrative.
He has a significant publication record, having published over 140 refereed journal, book chapter and conference articles and has supervised Masters and PhD research students through to completion.
Professor Yearwood is Associate Editor of the Journal of Research and Practice in Information Technology, and a reviewer for the Australian Journal of Information Systems.
He is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Australian Computer Society (ACS), and a Director of JustSys Pty.Ltd. and Datascreen Pty.Ltd.
