Responsibilities
Servers
- Installation, configuration, maintenance and administration of Novell & NT fileservers.
- Establishment, maintenance and administration of accounts, groups and users, ensuring management control and maintenance of systems, and security at fileserver, file, and user levels.
- Management of the LAN and fileserver resources.
- Development and maintenance of documentation on the servers and the LAN to ensure that operational and maintenance tasks can be carried out efficiently.
Personal Computer Support
- Installation, maintenance and upgrading of desktop PC hardware, software so that equipment is fully operational for staff and student use.
- Testing, diagnosis, and resolution of problems with local area network equipment, and general-purpose computer equipment.
- Networking of personal computers and workstations to the LAN, to ensure all users have transparent access to facilities offered by the network.
- Installation and maintenance of network aware printers on a Novell network.
- The provision of advice to staff on IT issues, and the provision of basic training on network operations.
