The scope of eHealth includes health informatics, health e-Business, electronic messaging, telemedicine, telematics and telemetry.

The foremost area of expertise and technical application of CCeH is in the area of system interoperability, particularly with respect to technology systems and Standards in healthcare electronic messaging. This involves the application of HL7 messaging Standards, the practical implementation of these message-types, security and PKI, and the range of other application message Standards such as DICOM, UN/EDIFACT and XML.

Each of these areas of endeavour is considered to be a fundamental building block for initiatives such as Health Online, HealthConnect, the National Electronic Health Record and patient-centred care in general.

Education and Training in Health Informatics including specialist training in HL7 (Health Level Seven).

Consulting in messaging applications, decision support and other related areas of healthcare informatics.

Research, applied and pure research.
