Information on the School of Information Technology and Mathematical SciencesThe School of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences offers a comprehensive range of Bachelor, Master and Research Degrees. These courses are designed with industry input to produce industry-ready graduates. Our flagship degree is the Bachelor of Information Technology (Professional Practice) which is offered in conjunction with IBM™ as an Earn As You Learn Program. Graduates emerge from this course after four years with one year’s industry experience. The Bachelor of Applied Computing, Bachelor of Applied Computing (Games Technologies), Bachelor of Applied Computing (Mathematics), Bachelor of Information Technology, and Bachelor of Business Information Systems are highly regarded by employers and graduates. Studying these innovative degrees offers opportunities to learn about many important and fascinating areas in computing, to develop skills which will prove useful throughout your career and provide the foundation for an exciting career in the IT field. Students who are keen to graduate with strong programming skills enrol in the Bachelor of Applied Computing. Those students wishing to use their creative skills and who have an interest in games and multimedia enrol in the Bachelor of Applied Computing (Games Technologies). Students with a strong mathematical background who wish to further develop these skills enrol in the Bachelor of Applied Computing (Mathematics). Those students with a lesser background in mathematics and who are more interested in multimedia and networks choose the Bachelor of Information Technology. Those who are much more interested in a future in business select the Bachelor of Business Information Systems which provides the opportunity to study more Business units. We also offer a joint degree, the Bachelor of Engineering Science and Bachelor of Computing. We offer a variety of Masters degrees for those who are already graduates in a discipline other than computing or IT. One of our most popular degrees is the two year Master of Information Systems which is especially useful for those wishing to use information technology in a business environment. For those who wish to specialise in the security portion of Electronic Commerce we have the two year Master of Information Systems (eCommerce Security). We also have an 18 month Master of Business Information Systems . Our flagship Masters degree is the Master of Information Technology which has proved very popular for international students. For those more interested in Industry than Business, we offer an 18 month Master of Information Technology Studies. We also offer a joint degree, the Master of Information Technology Studies and Master of Business Administration. A rich variety of one semester Graduate Certificates and two semester Graduate Diplomas are also available. At the present time we have over 1,000 international students studying our Masters degrees. For those who have a major in computing, information technology, software engineering, telecommunications or computer engineering in their Bachelor degree studies, we offer a Master of Information and Communication Technology. This is a two year course which can be normally completed in one year by those students who have a four year Honours degree. We have a rich offering of research degree courses including the Master of Computing by Research, the Master of Mathematical Sciences by Research, the Doctor of Information Technology and of course the degree which is at the pinnacle of research degrees, the Doctor of Philosophy. Currently we are proud to have over 40 research students. The School of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences is extremely active in research through the Centre for Informatics and Applied Optimization and does research and consultancy in health informatics through its Collaborative Centre for eHealth . With eighty academic, general and technical staff, the School of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences is one of the most vibrant departments in an Australian university.
