Areas of Interest
I teach sociology units about indigenous issues, health, research methods, rural Australia, Australia’s role in the region and I co-ordinate the FAST (transition to university) program. I also have broad research interests which relate to:
- Community development and community capacity building in rural communities;
- Program evaluation;
- Australian welfare history;
- Interpretations of ethical practices in conducting research involving human participants;
- Citizenship and welfare entitlements;
- The role of the professional in helping facilitate self-help support groups;
- Insurgency and indigenous independence movements in the Asia-Pacific region;
- Australia's foreign policy responses to democratic movements in the Asia-Pacific region;
- History of race relations in Australia
