These centres/units are committed to excellence and innovation within their areas of interest and aim to expand the knowledge base within the university and broaden individual understanding.

The dream of all authors and editors is to be able to write and receive a steady stream of articles that are perfect to go to print just as received. The bad news is that it is just a dream. The good news is that a process called action learning can help bring the dream a little closer to reality.” (Brown, 1994/5)

The School runs a group mentoring program to assist staff and students with publications. It is based on the “learning sets” model of Dr. Robert Brown (Queensland Dept. of Primary Industries) and does not require participants to be specialists in the field – merely to be able to ask “dumb questions”, with the focus on the message rather than the content. Originally developed for science publications, the format has been adapted by Perishers members to be suitable for the Humanities and Social Sciences as well.
