Literature

Literature aims to deepen students’ awareness and understanding of the rich imagination and language that is both our literary inheritance and a reflection of the shape of our culture.

Students of Literature in the B.A. will have the opportunity to explore many periods and genres of literary texts in English, in the context of a multidisciplinary sequence of units in the Humanities. The programme aims to foster alert and thoughtful reading habits, to extend the range of student experience and to develop clear and effective critical thinking and language skills.

Some units are based on forms and genres of literature, some on the literature of a particular historical period or place with an emphasis on major cultural movements and ideas, some on particular topical issues or themes, and others on the creative imagination.
