International Students

When to Apply for Halls & Residences

Prospective international students are encouraged to apply for Halls and Residences as soon as they receive confirmation of a course place at the University of Ballarat.

How to Apply for Halls & Residences

Applications for 2009 open on 31st August 2008.

1. 1st complete the Online Survey & Application. You will need to inform International Student Programs of your Application Number.

2. Forward the $55 (incl GST) Application Fee to Accommodation Services.
A "credit card authorisation form" is available for your convenience (please complete and return by fax).
If you would prefer to directly deposit fee into our bank account please contact Accommodation Services at: accommodation@ballarat.edu.au for details.
Please Note: Payments into the University Bank Account have a small bank fee of AUD$10 per transaction. Please add this amount to any payments made.

Please ensure all details are correct and inform Accommodation Services of any changes prior to arrival.

Full Year FEES

Semester 1 only (Exchange/Study Abroad) FEES

Please note that these are draft prices and are based on a 39 week Licence Agreement, when you receive your offer and licence agreement the prices will reflect actual occupancy. Students who have accepted an offer to live in a Hall of Residence (Bella Guerin, Peter Lalor, Jamacra Place etc) and arrive prior to Friday 20th February 2009 will be required to pay an additional per night charge and will be housed in our Short-term Accommodation (see below section 'Temporary Accommodation").

Accepting an Offer to Halls and Residences

Successful applicants will be e-mailed with their Offer of Accommodation mid January 2009. Please note that we are not always able to offer 1st or 2nd Accommodation Preferences. Rooms within UB's Hall and Residences will be allocated by the following:

1. Completion of Application Form

2. Payment of Application Fee

3. Gender

Once you have received your Offer of Accommodation please complete the following steps:

1. Read all documents very carefully and note the expiry date of the offer. This offer is a legal document between you and the University of Ballarat so please read carfully before signing and follow all instructions.

2. To Accept your offer either:

  • Fax a signed copy of the Licence Agreement and a signed credit card authorisation form for the full payment or
  • Fax a signed copy of the Licence Agreement and a copy of the bank transfer.

    Accommodation Offers returned after the expiry date will be placed on a waiting list.

    Airport Pick-up

    If you are requiring Complementary Airport Pick-Up upon arrival, please complete the Arrival Details Form & forward it to the Accommodation Services Office at least 3 business days (Monday-Friday) prior to your arrival (Acommodation Services Details are on the form).

    You may wish to make your own transport arrangements from the airport to Ballarat. An Airport Shuttle bus service runs between Melbourne International Airport and Ballarat Railway Station, please visit the Airport Shuttlebus website for departure times and fares. Trains also run between Melbourne City and Ballarat Railway Station, please visit VLine's website for more information.

    Temporary Accommodation

    All international students have the option of staying in temporary accommodation while they are assisted to search for permanent housing.

    Victoria Street Short-term Accommodation is located in the centre of Ballarat and the rate is AUD$35.00 per night (University of Ballarat student) or AUD$37.50 per night (non University of Ballarat student) for a minimum of 2 nights stay (subject to availability).

    Temporary accommodation at Victoria Street is self contained and includes bed linen. Full cooking facilities are available.

    University Managed Property Listing (University Managed Properties and Private Off-Campus Accommodation)

    At the commencement of each semester some University Houses are set aside for the arrival of new international students. These properties are fully furninshed, include bed linen, a weekly common area clean and Gas, Electricity and Water costs.

    In most cases students will have a chance to meet other international students prior to choosing housemates. If students would prefer to live with Australian students, accommodation staff will assist where possible to mix houses.

    Students who may prefer to live in private off-campus accommodation can view available properties from the data base after the first week of January each year. Accommodation Service's Staff will happily assist with the settlement from temporary accommodation to the permanent property. Please note that students will need to view the properties and meet providers prior to accepting the housing offer.
