Confidentiality

Counselling within the service is confidential. In general, nothing that you say to a counsellor will be disclosed to a third party without your consent.

The exceptions to this rule are where other counsellors (who are also bound by confidentiality) review the counsellor's work or where the counsellor believes that your life or someone else's is at risk. In the latter case, the counsellor will tell you what they intend to do; they will probably contact other health professionals and may want to speak to your family.

If you ask the counsellor to write or speak to someone on your behalf, they will only disclose what is necessary to achieve your goal.

The counsellors welcome any questions you may have about confidentiality.
