Arts Academy Commencing Students Scholarships
The Arts Academy will be offering five scholarships to the value of $750 to VCE entry students in 2009. Scholarships will be offered in Visual Arts to students undertaking the Bachelor of Visual Arts (Fine Arts) or (Graphic Design/Multimedia) and in Performing Arts to students undertaking the Bachelor of Arts (Acting) or (Music Theatre).
Arts Academy staff initiated these scholarships to provide encouragement, financial assistance and support for talented arts students to realise their goal by undertaking a Bachelor of Arts course at the Arts Academy, University of Ballarat.
Eligibility: All prospective VCE students (from the Ballarat region) interviewed for Year 2009 courses will be eligible for consideration.
Selection Process: Staff of the Arts Academy will undertake the selection process. During the folio interview/application/audition process, a shortlist of names will be prepared based on prospective students artistic excellence, ability and potential as demonstrated at interview. Scholarships will be awarded following staff consultation of the shortlist of eligible students.
Announcement and Distribution: Scholarship announcement will occur in Semester 1 2009. Scholarship distribution will occur in Semester 2.

The uniqueness of the Arts Academy's cross-sectorol program allows for three financial aid scholarships in 2009 to be available to either Higher Education or TAFE students enrolled in nominated Arts Academy courses:

1 Indigenous Scholarship: $2,207 for a Higher Education or TAFE student

Eligibility
Open to Australian Citizens, New Zealand Citizens and holders of an Australian Permanent Resident Visa only
Students studying Year 12 in Western District* in 2008.
Selection criteria
- Applicants must be former pupils of primary or secondary schools in the Western District* of Victoria
with preference given to former students of
Port Fairy Consolidated** School, St Patrick's Primary School (Port Fairy),
Balmoral High School, Balmoral Consolidated School, Coleraine Primary School and St. Joseph's School (Coleraine).
- Applicants need to provide a statement of no more than 600 words.
This should outline how they exhibited determination and diligence towards their studies,
even though they may not necessarily have been amongst the highest achieving students. This
statement needs to be supported by documentation in the way of relevant school reports and
letters of reference from their school or schools, and/or a prominent community representative.
- Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate involvement in community or social activities, or provide other evidence which indicates a capacity for hard work and a willingness to learn.
- Further preference will be given to applicants whose personal circumstances mean that they may find it difficult to afford the costs of tertiary studies.
*'Western District' includes that area of Victoria approximately west and southwest of Calder
Highway including towns and cities on the highway. The University of Ballarat
reserves the right to determine the localities contained within this boundary.
Preference will be given to former pupils of those schools named.
**At various times these Consolidated Schools have also been known as State or Primary Schools.
Value:$4000 per annum
Duration:Maximum 4 years
Number per year: Two (2) scholarships will be offered in 2009
Offers: In March 2009 an offer will be made to the most eligible applicant who has lodged a scholarship application with the University of Ballarat and who has enrolled in a University of Ballarat course.
Retention: Maintain satisfactory academic performance as determined by the university for the duration of the scholarship allocation.
Deferability: Cannot be deferred
Other details:
The scholarship is tenable for the minimum time necessary to complete the course provided that:
a. The student studies full-time or to an extent deemed appropriate by the Trustees on advice from the selection committee.
b. The student's progress is in each year considered to be satisfactory by the Trustees on advice from the selection committee.
The Trustee may terminate the student's award or suspend it for one year on advice from the selection committee if it considers the student's progress to be unsatisfactory in any year. If the award is suspended, the Trustee may recommend the re-awarding of the scholarship to the same student after that year, if on the advice of the selection committee it considers that the student's academic record in that year justifies that action.
Undergraduate students who complete their degree within 3 years may be eligible to hold the scholarship for an additional year to undertake an Honours program.
No late applications will be accepted.
This scholarship applies to any TAFE or Degree program at a University of Ballarat domestic campus for a minimum study period of one year.
All scholarship offers are conditional upon enrolment in an approved award course of the University.
The decision made by the Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees Limited,
in consultation with the selection committee, is final.

Rural Finance is committed to the on-going education and skills development of young farmers and other young people involved in Victorian agriculture.
Each year scholarships worth up to $6000 per annum are offered to Victorian students for the duration of their course.
Who may apply?
- Students in the first or second year of their first undergraduate degree at a tertiary institution in Victoria;
- Students under 26 years of age;
- Studies may include agriculture, business, food science, forestry, applied science, horticulture and veterinary science;
- Students must demonstrate a career commitment that will ultimately benefit agriculture.

Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship
The School of Behavioural and Social Sciences and Humanities aims to encourage and support an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to undertake a course with the School. The scholarship is a course fee exemption of approximately $11,500 per year.
Fee Assistance for International Students in Adversity
Funds are available to support an international student in undertaking an undergraduate degree in the School of Behavioural and Social Sciences and Humanities. One Fee Assistance Award is available each year for a student demonstrating financial adversity.

The School of Business Bachelor Degree Scholarships
The School of Business is offering up to 30 Scholarships for new students commencing undergraduate studies for 2009.
Scholarships range from $300 to $4000 in value.
Students must be enrolled full time or part-time in BC5, BB5, MM5 or BM5 to be eligible for a scholarship.
Subject to being enrolled after the HECS census dates of 31st March & 31st of August 2009.

Bachelor of Sport Management Scholarships
Two scholarships are available to students entering the Bachelor Sport Management degree in 2009.
These scholarships are available to students who are selected into the above program with a VCE
score of 40 and above in 2 pre-requisite subjects and/or an ENTER score above 75.
Value: The scholarships will be $1,000 each.

Two scholarships are available to students entering the Bachelor of Sport Management / Bachelor of Business
combined degree (VTAC code 37411). These scholarships are available to students who are selected into the

The University of Ballarat awards Scholarships to the value of $2000 to Year 12 students within the Central Highlands,
Wimmera, Barwon, Loddon, Mallee and Western District regions who enrol in a University of Ballarat course.
The Scholarships are awarded on the basis of excellence in their areas of study, contributions to the community
and to their school.
Awards to the value of $500 are also available to the Year 10 students who achieve the best results within their school,
in each of the secondary schools within the Central Highlands and Wimmera regions. These awards will be presented at
Secondary School Speech Nights.

Two scholarships are available, one for students studying a degree program and one for
students studying a TAFE program, valued at $2500 each.
The over-riding eligibility criteria for a recipient of a Mick Young Scholarship is
financial disadvantage combined with motivation and commitment to furthering education and improving life circumstances.
Scholarships are only available to students enrolled in full time courses run by the
University of Ballarat in the 2009 academic year.

Students must be enrolled full-time or part-time in a Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma course
at the University of Ballarat, SMB Campus, for the 2009 Academic Year.
In so far as possible, preference will be given to applicants who are employees or children of employees
of Pasminco Port Pirie Smelter (formerly Broken Hill Associated Smelters).
Previous recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to apply.
Applications will be assessed on financial circumstances; academic performance; commitment to educational
achievement; and objectives of study. Termination of studies by the holder will automatically cancel the Scholarship.
