Open Day 2008 - Activities and Entertainment

UB has a wide range of activities and entertainment happening on Open Day for everyone to get involved. If you have ever wondered what happens at UB, and would like a fun day out for the entire family, please feel free to come along and join in the activities at any of our three Ballarat campuses!

Mt Helen

Campus Tours

Tours will leave from the 'Tours Start Here' sign located at 'The Starting Point' departing on the half hour beginning at 10am, with the final tour departing at 2pm.

Accommodation
Come along and chat to Current Residents and RST members as you tour the Halls and Residences. Tours commence from Accommodation Services Office (across the bridge) at Mt Helen.

Information Sessions

Accommodation
Current Residents will be running Accommodation Seminars at 11.00am or 1.00pm in the AS Seminar Room, come along for an insight into living in a University Residential Community and some of the realties you may face when you move away from home to attend University.

Entertainment and Cuisine

Listen to the popular University Pipe Band and enjoy the Sweet Mona's Choir and funky DJ music as they entertain the crowd. Pick up a sausage from one of the BBQ's, grab a coffee from outside the Library Building, or take a breather and grab some refreshments from 'The Hub'.

Sweet Mona's Choir
Sweet Mona's Choir is a vibrant, uplifting and dynamic 25 piece A Cappellachoir with a unique blend of gospel, blues and world music and featuring ‘Australian Idol ‘My Mum Rocks’ winner Dani Fry.

UBSA (Student Association)
Come and talk to staff and members and find out about the array of facilities, programs and services available to accommodate student needs and interests.

Information Services Discovery Zone

Information Services will have the "Discovery Zone" set-up in the libraries at Mt Helen and SMB to showcase the IT resources on offer for students. There will be prizes and giveaways to visitors on the day sponsored by by various businesses.

Ghost Tour of the historic SMB campus 11.30am and 1.00pm
Join a tour of the SMB campus - including the old gaol, built in 1857. See the hanging room, imagine yourself in a 2m x 2.7m cell, see the tunnel from the gaol to the court house. As the third oldest tertiary education institution in Australian the SMB campus holds many great historical secrets. The tour will depart from the SMB Starting Point.

Information Sessions

'Returning to Study - Mature Age Presentation'
Come and hear from current students and UB staff about how easy it is! Find out about the application process for Mature Age students, services and facilities available to you and most importantly how we can make your time at UB an enjoyable learning experience. Don't miss the information session: 11.30am, SMB Campus (TAFE), Brewery Complex Lecture Theatre.

UB Tec Information Sessions
Location: Flecknoe Building (UB Tec Foyer)
Time: 11am and 2pm
Speakers: Head, UB Tec – Why UB Tec is different
Industry Teacher, John Francis – Hands up for technology
UB Tec Student – Student tells all
Information will also be available from staff/students throughout the day on a one-to-one basis.

Centrelink Presentation
Centrelink information will be available at each of the campuses Starting Points. Centrelink will present a general information session about a range of issues that affect students at 12.30pm, SMB Campus (TAFE), Brewery Complex Lecture Theatre.

Entertainment and Cuisine

There will be enough to entertain all ages at SMB. There will also be plenty of food and refreshments available to get you through the day. Grab a free sausage from the Student Association BBQ, a coffee or food from the café or visit Prospects Restaurant for coffee and cake. Make sure you pick up a plant from our Horticulture departments 'Plant Sale'. Don't miss out!

Student Activities

The Mining Exchange and New South Theatre Courtyard will be the venue for many student stalls where you may learn about student organisations and/or purchase comfort food which may include a barbequed sausage, soup in a ceramic mug and soft drinks.
