Applications

Notification of Application Outcome
All applicants of a UB Equity and Financial Aid Scholarship will be sent a letter by VTAC the week of 21 December, 2009 indicating whether they have A) been provisionally selected for a scholarship, B) no scholarship offer (but UB retains a strong interest in your application), or C) not likely to receive a scholarship.
What do the notification letters from VTAC mean?
A) Provisional Scholarship Offer Letter:
This letter means that should you meet all of the eligibility criteria and conditions of either a UB Financial Aid Scholarship or an Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarship as at the census date (31 March, 2010) in Semester 1, 2010, you will receive a scholarship. At the time of the original scholarship application in August-October, 2009, we were unable to determine full eligibility, therefore UB will be in touch with you again in February, 2010, to ask you to complete an online "Sub-Application", whereby we will ask a few questions to determine eligibility, as well as to ascertain whether you will be eligibile for further UB Financial Aid Scholarships. Final scholarship offers cannot be made until all eligiblity has been verified as at the census date of 31 March, 2010, with payments to follow in late April.
B) "Strong Interest" Letter:
This letter means that you have been shortlisted for a scholarship, although we are unable to make you a provisional scholarship offer at this point in time. Should you be enrolled at UB by February, 2010, we will contact you again in February, 2010, to ask you to complete an online "Sub-Application", whereby we will ask a few questions to determine eligibility that may not have been determined at the time of your original application, as well as to ascertain whether you will be eligibile for further UB Financial Aid Scholarships.
C) Not Likely to Receive a Scholarship Letter:
We regret to inform you that your application for a UB Equity and Financial Aid Scholarship has been unsuccessful.

As part of the 2009-2010 Commonwealth Budget, there are significant changes to the Commonwealth Scholarships scheme that have been proposed for implementation in 2010. Please note that these changes have not yet been passed in parliament, however are due to be tabled again in February, 2010.
What are the changes?
- The Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship will be called a "Student Start-Up Scholarship"
- The Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship will be called a "Relocation Scholarship"
- Both the Student Start-Up Scholarship and Relocation Scholarship will be administered by Centrelink
- Those currently in receipt of a Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship or a Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship at UB will continue to receive these scholarships for their duration. UB will continue to administer these scholarships.
- UB will continue to administer the Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarships for 2010. Applications were open via the VTAC Centralised Scholarships application from 3 August, 2009 and closed 30 October, 2009.
How will these changes effect me?
- The Student Start-Up Scholarship administered through Centrelink is available to university students receiving income support. In 2010 the value will be $2,254.
- The Relocation Scholarship is available to eligible university students receiving income support who have had to relocate to study. In 2010, $4,000 is available in the first year, $1,000 in subsequent years to assist with costs.
- The Parental Income threshold for students to get the maximum rate of Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY has increased. In addition, more students will be eligible for a partial rate of Youth Allowance, meaning that they will also be eligible to receive the Student Start-Up payment.
