uniTEST Information

The University of Ballarat offers a variety of higher education courses and its VTAC-listed courses require students to attain a minimum ENTER score of 50. Additionally, UB provides students completing VCE in 2008 with course advice concerning alternative pathways to support students to gain entry to its courses. In particular, prospective UB students who complete their VCE in 2008 and who score an ENTER of between 45 and 50 will be able to register to sit uniTEST.

uniTEST will be held on 5 January 2009. It is a comprehensive test of literacy, numeracy and analytical skills designed to measure readiness for tertiary academic study. Those who successfully complete UniTEST may be made an offer in either Round 2 or Round 3 through VTAC. Not all UB courses will be offering places via this pathway. Further information about courses and their entry requirements will be available from the UB Contact Centre after VCE results are released.

For further information, including directions please refer to the uniTEST FAQ's

FAST (Foundation for Academic STudies) program Information

People returning to study or year 12 leavers who do not achieve an ENTER of 45 may apply to UB's 13-week FAST (Foundation for Academic STudies) program. Students who successfully complete FAST will be offered a place in a UB degree level course commencing in mid-2009.

The University of Ballarat Foundation Access Studies Program (FAST) is a full time program over one semester, designed to prepare students for study in a degree level course at the University of Ballarat. The FAST Program is designed to provide alternative entry to tertiary study at UB.

FAST allows prospective students to experience university study while giving them enough skills and confidence to undertake degree level studies in the following semester. FAST has been designed to enable people who do not hold prerequisites for entry to a degree course with the requirements they need to gain access to a higher degree course. People who have not been selected into a higher education course or people who are returning to study can use FAST to develop the skills, attitudes and knowledge to confirm their decision about university study. The FAST program will not remove all the difficulties you may face in attempting university study, but it will provide a stimulating and challenging opportunity to test yourself, and possibly find a new direction in life.

Students who pass the FAST course are guaranteed to obtain a place at the University of Ballarat in a course of study within the range of courses offered by the University in its higher education sector. Please note that this does not mean that students completing FAST will necessarily obtain admission to a specific degree level course of their choice - some courses require all applicants to attend an interview and may require them to demonstrate commitment or personal qualities related to that chosen field of study. However, any student who completes FAST will be offered a place in some course, related to their interests and abilities, at the University level. Prospective students are advised to check with the specific School for details about their preferred course of study and any additional entry requirements.

Applications to FAST can be made via the UB Direct Entry application form available at http://www.ballarat.edu.au/aasp/student/recruitment/2009_direct_application_form.pdf

For further information, please contact UB via info@ballarat.edu.au or 1800 811 711.
