TAFE Scholarships
Eligibility
- Candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate Nursing,Visual Arts, Civil Engineering or
Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Ballarat at the time of applying for, and if successful, at
the time of receipt of the Award.
- Candidates must have successfully completed their first year of a Nursing,Visual Arts, Civil Engineering or
Mechanical Engineering degree and be enrolled in the second year of the course.
- Both full-time and part-time students from these study areas are eligible for these awards. *
- Candidates must be an Australian Citizen or a Permanent Resident of Australia.
* Where this scholarship is awarded to a student who is not
undertaking a full-time student workload PAYG income tax
withholdings will apply.To ensure the correct amount of
income tax PAYG withholdings are made part-time
scholarship award recipients will need to furnish a fully
completed income tax, tax file number declaration.These
declarations can be obtained from UB Human Resources.
Selection Criteria
- The Awards will be presented by the University of Ballarat and the Albert Coates Memorial
Trust to the candidates who have:
- Achieved standards of excellence in their academic record;
- Demonstrated the ability to achieve academically whilst overcoming challenging circumstances, as determined by the Albert Coates Memorial Awards Selection Committee. These circumstances may involve financial, personal or academic difficulties, for example.
- Enrolled in the second year of their degree.
- The Awards shall not necessarily be awarded to the candidate achieving the highest academic standards.
- If no candidates are considered to be of sufficient merit by the Selection Committee the Awards will not be awarded in that given year.
- One or more Awards may be awarded in any given year
- Applications/letters received must be original copies and signed.

The uniqueness of the Arts Academy's cross-sectoral programs allows for the three financial aid scholarships in 2008 to be available to either Higher Education or TAFE students enrolled in nominated Arts Academy courses.

The Australian Constitution is the foundation of our system of government. It gives us our national unity and guarantees our freedoms. Yet very few of us know much about it. To encourage young Australians to learn more about our Constitution, the Governor-General, Major General Michael Jeffery, has created a special annual competition funded by the Constitution Education Fund - Australia (CEF-A).
Called the Governor-General's Prize, the initial competition is open to all Australian citizens enrolled in an undergraduate degree (including honours) in an Australian University.
- The Gold Medal will be a scholarship worth $20,000;
- The Silver Medal, a cash prize of $6000;
- The Bronze Medal, a cash prize of $4,000; and
- All other finalists will receive a cash prize of $1,000.

Rural Finance is committed to the on-going education and skills development of young farmers and other young people involved in Victorian agriculture. Each year Rural Finance offers up to six scholarships worth up to $6,000 per annum to Victorian students for the duration of their course.
Who can Apply?
- Students attending a tertiary institution in Victoria
- Student in the first or second year of their first undergraduate degree
- Students under 26 years of age
- Studies may include agriculture, business, food science, forestry, applied science, horticulture, science and veterinary science, among others
- Students must demonstrate a career commitment that will ultimately benefit agriculture
The scholarships are open not only to students who wish to take up farming as a career, but also to those who wish to provide consultancy, research, technical and other services to agriculture.

Fee Assistance for International Students in Adversity
Funds are available to support an international student in undertaking an undergraduate degree in the School of Behavioural and Social Sciences and Humanities. One Fee Assistance Award is available each year for a student demonstrating financial adversity.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship
The School of Behavioural and Social Sciences and Humanities aims to encourage and support an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to undertake a course with the School. The scholarship is a course fee exemption of approximately $11,500 per year.

Xstrata Zinc Second Year Vacation/Work Scholarships
Up to five scholarships will be offered in 2008 to applicants who must be full time, second year undergraduates studying the
Bachelor of Applied Science (in Metallurgy or Geology) or the Bachelor of Engineering Science (in Mining, Civil or Mechanical).
Successful applicants will be offered paid work with Xstrata Zinc in Mt Isa over the end of year study break as well as:
- $4000 for the third year of study in Geology, Metallurgy or Mining Engineering or,
- $2000 for the third year of study in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.

The University of Ballarat Pipe Band is a highly successful Victorian Pipe Band with more than 50 members of all ages. Its aim is to promote the Highland Bagpipes and Drums.
Two scholarships are available to the value of $1,000 each (full scholarship), or half scholarships may be awarded to the value of $500. To be eligible for a scholarship, students must be enrolled at the University of Ballarat, and be interested in becoming playing members of the University of Ballarat Pipe Band. Applicants must also have had some tuition in playing Bagpipes or Drums.

The Brian McLennan Art Scholarship was created in recognition of the contribution made by Brian McLennan to the teaching of arts at the School of Mines and Industries Ballarat, now a campus of the University of Ballarat. The School of Mines and Industries Ballarat has a long and proud history in teaching art, and Brian McLennan as a teacher, Head of Department and Assistant Director had a major influence on the teaching programs over the period 1976 - 1999.
Scholarships are awarded annually and consist of one scholarship, to the value of $2,000.00.
The Scholarship is paid in two instalments.
- The first payment is made after enrolment and commencement of study.
- The second and final payment is made on the commencement of semester two, subsequent to the confirmation that the recipient is still enrolled and attending their course of study and that you are performing academically at a consistent standard.
Eligibility
Students enrolled in the first year University of Ballarat TAFE, Arts Course and intend undertaking the second year of the course are entitled to apply. At the time of application and on receipt of scholarship the recipient must be enrolled in 11 hours (or 0.75 of this) per week.

Two scholarships are available, one for students studying a degree program and one for students studying a TAFE program, valued at $2000 each.
The over-riding eligibility criteria for a recipient of a Mick Young Scholarship is financial disadvantage combined with motivation and commitment to furthering education and improving life circumstances.
Scholarships are only available to students enrolled in full time courses run by the University of Ballarat in the 2008 academic year.
Please note that Scholarship application does not guarantee you a place in the course of your choice.
Value: $2,000 each

Students must be enrolled full-time or part-time in a Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma course at the University of Ballarat, SMB Campus, for the 2008 Academic Year.
In so far as possible, preference will be given to applicants who are employees or children of employees of Pasminco Port Pirie Smelter (formerly Broken Hill Associated Smelters).
Previous recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to apply.
Applications will be assessed on financial circumstances; academic performance; commitment to educational achievement; and objectives of study. Termination of studies by the holder will automatically cancel the Scholarship.
