About the Commonwealth Scholarships (CS)
In 2008 the University of Ballarat offered over 200 Commonwealth Scholarships. These include the implementation of a new
Commonwealth Government initiative whereby additional scholarships for Indigenous students were offered.
New categories of the Commonwealth Scholarships (previously Commonwealth Learning Scholarships) are the Indigenous Access Scholarships
for commencing Indigenous students,
as well as new CECS and CAS for Indigenous students enrolled in UB's FAST program.
Commonwealth Scholarships are merit-based, non-repayable and exempt from Social Security income tests, and awarded for up to four years, depending
on the scholarship, the length of course
and a student's ongoing eligibility.
To be eligible for a Commonwealth Scholarship, you must be:
- Enrolled as a Commonwealth supported student in your first undergraduate degree, or the Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary), or the Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary), or as an
Indigenous student in UB's FAST program; and
- An Australian citizen or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa; and
- Undertaking a full-time load, or have exceptional circumstances for not studying full-time; and
- Able to demonstrate low socio-economic status.
