About the UB Financial Aid Scholarships (UBFAS)

In 2009 around 80 UB Financial Aid Scholarships and 200 reconditioned desktop computers through the UB Free Computer Equity Scheme will be available.

Developed to assist regional and remote, low socio-economic, Indigenous students and students affected by exceptional circumstances such as drought with the costs associated with further education, the UB Financial Aid Scholarships are merit-based, non-repayable, and awarded for one year of study at UB.

Numerous types are available, with the eligibility criteria based on the Commonwealth Scholarships. To meet the base criteria, you must be:

  • Enrolled in your first undergraduate degree, or the Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary), or the Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary), or a nominated TAFE Arts Academy course; and
  • An Australian citizen or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa; and
  • Undertaking a full-time load, or have exceptional circumstances for not studying full-time; and
  • Able to demonstrate low socio-economic status.

NB: Students must meet additional criteria for the UB Regional Relief Scholarships, UB Accommodation Scholarships, UB Dr Mary Atkinson Scholarship, UB School Based Financial Aid Scholarships and the UB Free Computer Equity Scheme.

2009 UB Financial Aid Scholarships

University of Ballarat Regional Relief Scholarships

UB recognises that there are students who have been affected by exceptional circumstances such as drought, or whose families have been affected by exceptional circumstances, who are finding it difficult to meet the expenses of attending University.
In 2007, the UB Drought Relief Scholarships were developed, which are now titled 'UB Regional Relief Scholarships', to assist these undergraduate students who live in an exceptional circumstances declared area with the expenses associated with Higher Education.


University of Ballarat Education Costs Scholarships (UBECS)

  • $2,207 for one year
  • Assists undergraduate students with accommodation expenses where they have to move from a rural or regional area to study at UB

University of Ballarat Accommodation Scholarships (UBAS)

  • $4,415 for one year
  • Assists undergraduate students with accommodation expenses where they have to move from a rural or regional area to study at UB

University of Ballarat Dr Mary Atkinson Scholarship

UB recognises that Indigenous students are under-represented in Higher Education and can face significant barriers in accessing university, particularly those from rural and remote areas.

  • $5,400 for one year
  • Assists an Indigenous student in an undergraduate course at UB with costs associated with attending university

University of Ballarat School Based Financial Aid Scholarships

The University's Higher Education Schools and the Arts Academy (Higher Education and TAFE) also offer a number of financial aid scholarships for students enrolling in their Schools. Information on these scholarships will be updated as it becomes available.

University of Ballarat Free Computer Equity Scheme

The UB Free Computer Equity Scheme will offer 200 reconditioned desktop computers to students meeting the base criteria above in 2009.

Students must nominate on the application form that they wish to be considered for a computer. Computer specifications and complete eligibility criteria can be found in the Selection and Administration Guidelines and Information Sheet available below.
