VTAC
The following applicants for Higher Education Courses are advised to apply through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC):
- Australian Citizens
- New Zealand Citizens
- Holders of Australian permanent visas
- International students studying in the year of application the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
- Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) or the International Baccalaureate (IB)in Victoria
and are applying for:
- Undergraduate Degree courses listed in the VTAC Guide 2009
- Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary)

All VTAC applications are submitted online. Internet Access Points are available at the University of Ballarat's SMB and Mt Helen Campuses to provide access to the VTAC website services.
The online VTAC Guide is available from the VTAC website or hard copies from Newsagents.
Direct Applications
The Higher Education Direct Application form may only be used by applicants who are an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident of Australia and are applying for:
- Postgraduate courses (Excluding Graduate Diploma of Education)
- Courses not listed in the VTAC Guide
- Current University of Ballarat students wishing to undertake another course within the University
- Mid year entry.

Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) - VTAC 'type 1' course code - eligible only if CSP places are available.
Formerly known as a 'HECS place'. The Australian Government contributes towards the educational costs for Commonwealth-supported students; these students pay a 'student contribution'.
If eligible, students may defer their student contribution via a HECS Higher Education Loan Programme (HECS-HELP).
Non Commonwealth Supported Place (Non-CSP) - full fee-paying place eligible for Post Graduate Coursework only if Non-CSP are available.
The Australian Government does not contribute to course costs of fee paying students; these students pay a 'tuition fee'.
If eligible, A FEE Higher Education Loan Programme (FEE-HELP) can cover all or part of a student's tuition fees. A loan fee of 20% applies to FEE-HELP loans for undergraduate courses of study. No loan fee applies to FEE-HELP loans for postgraduate courses.
