Student Learning Skills

Student Learning Skills (SLS) is committed to enhancing UB students' learning experience and supporting their transition to become independent learners.

We provide a range of resources that focus on developing academic learning, writing and English language skills for domestic and non-English speaking background students.

Services are free and available to UB Higher Education undergraduate students.



Service outline

You can access learning materials online. Hard copy versions are also available on the Mt Helen, Camp Street, SMB and Horsham campuses.

Undergraduate students can access six individual appointments with a Learning Skills Adviser per academic year.

Learning Skills Advisers provide general assistance with the presentation of academic work, specialising in:

  • Essay writing
  • Note-taking
  • Examination techniques
  • Group work & presentation skills
  • Time management
  • Avoiding plagiarism
  • Referencing
  • English as a Second Language
  • Effective reading

Bookings are recommended to ensure availability. Contact us to make a booking.

International students

If you are an International student, study skills assistance is available through International Student Programs.

Off-campus students

If you are studying off-campus and wish to speak with a Learning Skills Adviser, contact us in the first instance to make an appointment. Individual assistance is available via telephone and online communication systems for off-campus students only.

TAFE students

If you are a UB TAFE student, assistance is available through the TAFE Student and Learning Support website.
